He completed his internship and residency at Westchester Medical Center, NY in 2001. Dr. Boardman then went on to active duty in the U. S. Army and was stationed at Keller Army Community Hospital at the United States Military Academy, West Point, NY. During his tenure there, he was appointed as Chief of General Surgery, Chief of Trauma, Medical Director of both the Pre-hospital Traumatic Life Support Course and EMT-B course, and was part of the Orange County Disaster Response Team. Dr. Boardman spent two tours overseas during his four years of active duty. His first tour, in 2002, was at Camp Bondsteel, Kosovo where he was Chief of Surgery. His second tour took him to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. He was with the 28th Combat Support Hospital in Baghdad from September 2003 to March 2004. He became board certified in September 2002 and was inducted as a Fellow in the American College of Surgeons in 2004. Along with his wife, Dr. Mary Beth Lewis, an obstetrician and gynecologist, they relocated to Clermont in the summer of 2005. Together they are raising their two children, Annabella and Samuel.
Dr. Boardman has developed a special interest in cosmetic surgery since graduating medical school. Being a general surgeon, he has worked with a variety of cosmetic surgeons in the treatment of diseases and the reconstruction after surgical procedures. This began with his work at Westchester Medical Center. During his residency he rotated into the burn unit and onto the plastic surgery services. In those rotations he treated severely burned patients, assisted with the reconstruction of breast cancer patients and patients needing advanced reconstruction of cosmetic defects. This interest continued with his practice at Keller Army Community Hospital where he learned to perform abdominoplasties on patients who had significant weight loss after gastric bypass surgery. He also furthered his education on breast cosmetics by treating and reconstructing breast cancer patients. After opening Clermont Surgical Associates, he took time out of his busy practice to educate himself further on the subtleties of cosmetic breast surgery in order to be able to offer his patients the most comprehensive surgical practice around. He has partnered with Drs Lewis and McLean of Clermont Obstetrics and Gynecology, to be able to offer most cosmetic and skin related care.
Dr. Boardman is also an integral part of the South Lake Community. He supports the local community by giving health related lectures/talks, participating in fund raising events, donating to local charities, being a Chairman of South Lake Hospital’s Quality Control Committee and being a President of the South Lake Independant Physician Association and a board memeber of the Lake Sumter Medical Society. He has joined forces with several other local physicians to work with South Lake Hospital to improve the quality of care provided to the citizens of the area.
